The hype train for Tennessee basketball is totally out of control. There’s something like five months still remaining until the season even begins but UT is already being recognized as a team that could legitimately compete for a national title in 2018–19.
Here’s a few of the preseason accolades Rick Barnes’ squad has received so far…
- ESPN ranked Tennessee at No. 5 in their early top 25 prediction
- Gary Parrish of CBS Sports ranked Tennessee at No. 3 in his preseason top 25
- National CBB analyst Jon Rothstein ranked Tennessee at No. 3 in his top 25
And now, there’s yet another hype-building prediction for Vol fans to be concerned (or happy) about. Jerry Palm, CBS Sports’ in-house braketologist, says he thinks Tennessee will be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in the coming season.
Here’s what he had to say about the prediction…
“Tennessee would be a newbie to the top line if this comes through for the Volunteers. They return every significant contributor from last season’s surprising run to the SEC title and a No. 1 seed in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. The Vols figure to be favored to repeat that championship, although there will be strong challengers.”
There’s lots of expectations for this team but if they can perform anything like they did in 2017–18, it could be another special year.
