Who? Eric Gray

What? All-purpose running back in the class of 2019

Where? Memphis, TN (Lausanne Collegiate School)

247 Sports rating: 4-star. No. 85 prospect nationally. No. 1 all-purpose back. No. 2 prospect in Tennessee.

Rivals rating: 4-star. No. 233 prospect nationally. No. 4 all-purpose back. No. 8 prospect in Tennessee.

ESPN rating: 4-star. No. 265 prospect nationally. No. 17 running back. No. 7 prospect in Tennessee.

One glaring need for Tennessee’s 2019 class has been at the tailback position and it’s been made clear as day that Coach Jeremy Pruitt wants versatility when it comes to running backs.

Well, he got just that with the addition of heralded all-purpose back Eric Gray. Gray is an elite prospect and one of the best players in the state of Tennessee. Gray pledged to the Michigan Wolverines on the very first day of July but the Vols actively pursued him despite this. And eventually, UT was able to get Gray on campus a handful of times over the last few months and their persistence paid dividends when he announced that he will be a Vol during a ceremony at his high school.

Gray may not possess supreme size, 247 Sports has him slated at 5-foot-10 and 193 pounds, but regardless, he is a top-tier tailback. Gray is a three-time winner of Tennessee’s Mr. Football award and he’s electric with the rock, especially when he’s in open space.

Gray has the ability to put defenders on ice skates and make them look silly. There is a reason programs like Michigan, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Penn State, and Alabama held him in high regard. Check his tape you’ll see what I mean…
