Tennessee is investing a lot of money in its first-year football coach.

Jeremy Pruitt’s salary currently pays him $3,846,000 per year. To most people, that’s a massive amount of cash. But, in the context of SEC and college football as a whole, Pruitt is very much in the middle of the pack.

USA Today released its annual ranking of football coaches’ salaries on Wednesday and according to their findings, Pruitt is currently the 26th highest paid coach in America and the 8th highest paid coach in the SEC. The list doesn’t include coaches at certain private universities that do not disclose salaries.

Pruitt’s old boss, Nick Saban at Alabama, leads the pack with an annual payout of $8,307,000. The list also features the amountĀ of each coach’s buyout as of December 1, 2018. Pruitt’s buyout stands at $11,780,000 and Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher has the largest buyout in CFB at a staggering $68,125,000.
