College football is right around the corner, which means we’re currently in the thick of watch list season. And on Thursday, another Vol was named to a preseason watch list for a postseason award.
Vols senior defensive lineman Kyle Phillips was placed on the Wuerffel Trophy watch list. The Wuerffel Trophy, named for former Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel, is given annually to the college football athlete that “best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.”
Phillips, a 6-foot-4, 273-pound native of Nashville is expected to be an upperclassman leader and major contributor for the Vols in 2018. He was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2015, 2016, and 2017 and last season, Phillips accumulated 35 tackles and two sacks.
