One day after rumors swirled that Tennessee offensive coordinator Tyson Helton’s job was in jeopardy, reports have now surfaced that he’s the top candidate to take a head coaching job in the American Athletic Conference.

According to Chris Low of ESPN, Helton is the top name in the search for the next head man for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. WKU fired Mike Sanford on Sunday after he managed to lead his team to only three wins during the 2018 season.

Helton previously worked at Western Kentucky in 2014-15 as the team’s offensive coordinator with Jeff Brohm as his head coach.

We will update this report if and when more information becomes available.
