Rick Barnes says he would “be surprised” if Jordan Bowden doesn’t play on Saturday

On Thursday afternoon, Tennessee head basketball coach Rick Barnes gave an update on the health status of one of his most important players.

Junior guard Jordan Bowden is averaging 10.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game this season but he sat out of Tuesday night’s 22-point win over South Carolina due to a knee injury. Very few details were given about the nature of Bowden’s knee problem but it was reported during the game that he made the injury known to UT’s staff during pregame shootaround.

During a meeting with local media today, Coach Barnes spoke at length about Bowden’s injury and the possibility that he will be playing against the Vols’ next opponent, Texas A&M, on Saturday…

“They’re still working on him. We’ll probably know more tomorrow. You know, he’ll be fine. I’ll be surprised if he’s not ready to play, but, who knows? Because he’s a hard one to keep out.

“And like I said, he didn’t even tell anybody that he was even having the pain that he was having until shootaround. And he’s the kind of person that would wait until the very end like that. … But, during the shootaround, he just felt like he couldn’t go.”

We’ll have live updates during Tennessee’s game at Texas A&M and we’ll bring you the latest on Bowden’s health status if and when more information becomes available.
