According to a report from Patrick Brown of 247 Sports, former Tennessee offensive coordinator Jim Chaney is expected to return to Knoxville in the same position. The report states that “barring unforeseen circumstances” and announcement of Chaney’s hiring could come as soon as Wednesday.
Chaney has been the OC at Georgia since 2016. During that time, the Bulldogs have accumulated a record of 32-10 and the Bulldogs finished the 2018-19 season with the No. 5 offense in the SEC, averaging 464.9 yards per game. The last time Chaney led the offense for the Vols, Tennessee had the No. 2 offense in the SEC, averaging 475.9 yards per game. It marked one of the best offensive seasons in UT football history.
Tennessee has been searching for a new OC since Tyson Helton left the position in November to become the head football coach at Western Kentucky.
We’ll update this report if and when new information becomes available.
