Trey Smith continues to collect preseason accolades going into just his second season on Rocky Top. Last week, the 6-foot-6, 320-pound offensive lineman was placed on the All-SEC first team list by league media and on Tuesday, he was named to the Outland Trophy watch list.
The Outland Trophy is awarded annually by the Football Writers Association of America to the best interior lineman in America. The award was given to Houston defensive lineman Ed Oliver in 2017.
During Smith’s freshman campaign with the Vols, he started in all 12 games and is considered one of the best offensive linemen in America. Following last season, Smith was named an All-SEC player by the Associated Press, Phil Steele, and league coaches.
The winner of the Outland Trophy will be announced at The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 6 on ESPN. Check out the full Outland Trophy watch list by clicking here.
