Tennessee lost one of the most important pieces of its roster on Thursday. According to an announcement from head coach Jeremy Pruitt, sophomore offensive lineman Trey Smith will be out indefinitely after blood clots were found in his lungs this week.
Smith had problems with blood clots in his lungs during the offseason but he was cleared by doctors before the beginning of the 2018 season. A statement from Tennessee indicates that Smith will make a full recovery but there’s simply no timetable for his return.
“The most important thing is for Trey to be able to get healthy,” Pruitt said. “He has been an outstanding student-athlete during my time here on and off the field. Our sole focus for Trey is on his recovery. We are thankful that our medical staff discovered this and is getting him the proper treatment.”
