Paul Finebaum became a notable personality in the SEC because of a radio show he hosted for years in the state of Alabama, but what some people may not realize is that he’s actually a graduate of the University of Tennessee.
He certainly hides his UT alumni status well most of the time, but on Wednesday, Paul got passionate when talking about new Vol football coach Jeremy Pruitt, calling Pruitt “refreshing” while also blasting former coach Butch Jones for being a “pathetic carney barker”…
“Tennessee fans have a real coach and they also have a real athletic director … I think for the first time in a long time, the University of Tennessee is back on the right track.”

That’s a strong, strong take from Paul. Not just about the coaching situation but also about Philip Fulmer taking over as director of athletics.
Paul wasn’t messing around and it’s nice to see someone actually have good things to say about UT’s athletic department for a change. Perhaps if Jeremy Pruitt can meet the standards that are expected of him, there will be more compliments coming the Vols’ way, instead of constant criticism, as became the norm with Butch “Carney Barker” Jones.
